This flap is then lifted and the preprogrammed laser then reshapes the inner cornea to refocus the eye. Initially, numbing eye drops are used and then eyelids are held open to prevent any interference with the laser. The laser pulses last on the average between 30 and 60 seconds. There is no requirement to wear eye patches following LASIK surgery. LASIK is now used to treat hyperopia (farsightedness) and astigmatism. This will typically be an older non-customized blade procedure, and may not include all the extra follow-up and care that you may need.
